It does however have a violence non existant in the original starwars. In new hope we didnt see stormtroopers massacre jawas and kill luke's relatives. That restraint is gone in rogue one.
I might be wrong on this, but I thought I'd read somewhere that the intent was to test out the idea of a more "adult" SW film with this one...aimed at the older fans. We'll have to see how it goes....SW as a family friendly film is pretty embedded in it's design, and only Revenge of the Sith tested these waters so far (and that flamethrower scene in TFA).
