My understanding is Loz and Pete at The Design Mechanism are working on Glorantha books for Runequest 6. Meanwhile the only official current support for the setting is with Moon Design, which has some thick reprinted tomes of classic material. The best edition to run the old material is the original 2nd or 3rd edition Runequest, but BRP is probably second best choice (and RQ6 with some work). There's also a lot of RQII Glorantha stuff from Glorantha's 2nd Age setting still out there, and Design Mechanism still has some of that available in PDF for $1 a pop which is a steal. But if you want to position yourself for current Glorantha content, RQ6 is probably your best bet, assuming they release some new books this year. Failing that....I suggest get OQ2 and use it with Moon Design's books. It's not the rules that are interesting to me (though I like the BRP system), it's the Glorantha setting. I take it that none of the above games contains Gloranthan material then?Priddayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17988483528642234280noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4566357373248344031.post-5615788919953227612014-01-31T11:39:43.302-07:002014-01-31T11:39:43.302-07:00That's a common problem....and one of the reas...That's a common problem....and one of the reasons my interests shift a lot over time, as well. I started this year thinking about how GURPS would be great to get back into, but after only a few weeks I realized that for multigenre gaming I need something easy to run, easy to play and easy to write scenarios for....and Savage Worlds suddenly "popped" for me. Runequest 6 is a great system, but honestly the condensed approach RQII took (and Legend) simply is easier to work with. No disrepsect to Pete and Loz for RQ6's design, but it's a game that demands time, and time I ain't got....!Doctor Futurityhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02586371999646337047noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4566357373248344031.post-36896117051748720502014-01-31T11:37:44.706-07:002014-01-31T11:37:44.706-07:00Gore is a very simple redux of BRP....and actually...Gore is a very simple redux of BRP....and actually pretty decent. I think it was Goblinoid Games' first effort at an OSR build. If i included it in the roster above, I'd have to rank it as easier to learn and play, by virtue of how concise it is; it's sort of what BRP would have looked like if you'd turned the original quickstart rules into its own game, rather than the giant toolkit+options book that BRP actually became.Doctor Futurityhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02586371999646337047noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4566357373248344031.post-28109200960396116652014-01-31T10:08:54.569-07:002014-01-31T10:08:54.569-07:00Nice comparison. One of them is Runequest. The other big one is Rolemaster. I just don't think I have the time to really give them the TLC, the goodly amount of time (as you mentioned in your post) that I would want to dedicate to really grokking the rules, you know? I want to have the time to "live" with the rules, just like I did when I was a kid with D&D. But alas, the amount of time I had as a kid is gone, at least for the time being...who knows what the future holds?Anthony Simeonehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04312134763577949405noreply@blogger.com
